Marketing is the generous act of helping someone solve a problem. Their problem.

It’s a chance to change the culture for the better.

Marketing is less about shouting, hustling or coercion. It’s a chance to serve.

The internet is the first mass medium that wasn’t invented to make marketers happy. Television was invented to run TV ads and all you needed was money where transmission became one to many. We didn’t ask anyone to own the idea all we asked them to do was consume them. It’s not surprising then that marketers decided that advertising is what they did. Marketing was advertising.

And then it wasn’t true anymore.

Marketing is now the generous act of helping others become who they seek to become; empowering them to connect with their deepest values by inspiring them to become the hero of their own story and highlighting your product as an aid in their own personal journey.

The other kind of marketing, the hype, scams, and pressure thrives on selfishness.
